Today the world lost a great visual artist as the legendary Japanese film director, animator, screenwriter, and producer, Isao Takahata, has passed away at the age of 82. Takahata was the co-founder of Studio Ghibli along with Hayoa Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki. He directed and wrote many great films at Sudio Ghibli, such as “Grave of the Fireflies”, “Pom Poko”, and “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya”. As I have said in previous posts, Studio Ghibli played a major role in my dream of becoming a writer for animation, so I am deeply saddened by his loss. If you have not had the chance to see his films, I highly recommend you do so as they are fantastic displays of art and storytelling. There will never be another artist like Isao Takahata and I will always remember him as a great storyteller and artist.
